Travel Itinerary
Day One – Fly to Anchorage
Our flight to the “Land of the Midnight Sun” takes us to Anchorage, Alaska, where the first day of travel will come to a quiet close as we explore the new surroundings and prepare for our adventure.
Day Two – Fairbanks
After breakfast at the hotel, we depart for Fairbanks; better known to Alaskans as the Golden Heart City. We’ll drive through the Matanuska Susitna Valley where world record monster size vegetables grow in the 24-hour daylight, and visiting a farm homesteaded in the early days of Alaska. This route takes us along the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park, the largest park in the U.S. and the Trans-Alaska Pipeline. We’ll overnight in Fairbanks the next 2-nights.
Day Three – Fairbanks
Today learn how the gold rush affected Alaska’s interior on a sightseeing tour with an included visit to the University of Alaska, Fairbanks Museum. Time is available for shopping, walking or dining on your own in the downtown area. This afternoon we cruise on the Chena River aboard a sternwheeler and experience the Old Chena Village where native Alaska guides show the culture and lifestyle of the original Alaskans. Tonight we enjoy an authentic salmon bake.
Day Four – Denali National Park
After breakfast at the hotel, we depart by motorcoach south to Denali National Park. Enjoy an afternoon of exploring this pristine area and/or participate in optional excursions such as river rafting, flight seeing Mt. McKinley, jet boat safari on the Nenana River or a visit to the award winning dog kennels of 2006 Iditarod champion, Jeff King. We overnight the next 2 nights in Denali.
Day Five – Denali National Park
After breakfast at the hotel, we travel deep into Denali National Park on the Tundra Wilderness Tour and search the pristine wilderness for bear, moose, caribous, and dall sheep. This 6-8 hour journey is narrated allowing for insight into the animals, flora and fauna of this spectacular region. A box lunch is packed for the trip for your enjoyment.
Day Six – Ride the Alaska Railroad
After breakfast at the hotel this morning you can enjoy your leisure time exploring. This afternoon board the world famous Alaska Railroad for the day trip to Anchorage. As you travel along the Susitna River, you may catch a glimpse of the majestic Mt. McKinley or black bear along the banks. We overnight the next 2 nights in Anchorage.
Day Seven – Anchorage
Enjoy a city tour of Anchorage after breakfast at the hotel, which includes the historic downtown district. Included is a visit to the Alaska Native Heritage Center, a gathering place that celebrates, perpetuates and shares Alaska Native cultures. Tonight, feast on an Alaska style meal and share tales from the road with your traveling companions.
Day Eight – Kenai Peninsula
We depart Anchorage today after breakfast at the hotel, for the central peninsula community of Kenai. We’ll enjoy a narrated walking tour of the old town village of Kenai, where th Russian Orthodox influence is evident. Visit an authentic cannery with a chance to explore this century old historic site and dine at leisure. We’ll continue our journey south and see spectacular scenery like volcanoes on the far side of the Cook Inlet, lush green valleys and an array of wildflowers. Tonight we enjoy a “Welcome to Homer” dinner. We overnight in Homer.
Day Nine – Girdwood
We head north to Soldotna after breakfast at the hotel and the banks of the Kenai River. Take a stroll down the dock to watch fishermen in this world class destination and visit the Historical Society Museum to see early homestead cabins, the first area schoolhouse and enjoy the nature trail. Continue to Girdwood, located in the scenic Portage River Valley. Overnight Girdwood.
Day Ten – Prince William Sound
After breakfast at the hotel we visit the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center for an up close look at some of Alaska’s land critters. Continue touring to the port of Whittier and cruise the calm and protected waters of Prince William Sound. This all day cruise includes a tasty lunch. Come face to face with tidewater glaciers plus an amazing array of wildlife, including whales. We then motorcoach to Anchorage where we will overnight.
Day Eleven – Travel Home
Today you have some free time to spend in Anchorage before being transferred to the airport for your late evening flight home, arriving home in Omaha the morning of Day 12, with many wonderful memories of your Alaska Adventure.
