Around 3:15am on November 20, 2008 an explosion occurred at the All Points C operative elevator in Gothenburg. One man, an employee suffered some burns.

The 2008 TeamMate Tailgate ended with one last tailgate held at the KRVN studios on Thursday, September 25th! Our lucky winner was Shannon Peterson of Gothenburg. We had a great evening, huge crowd, delicious food and a lot of fun! Enjoy the pictures of our final Team KRVN event!

Kansas is known as The Sunflower State. Sunflowers can grow as wildflowers on the plains and it can be cultivated as a crop for uses as an oilseed, snacks, etc. Driving along Highway 36 in Mid-August somewhere in Republic County, we came across this sunflower field that was worth a stop for a few minutes.

Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman traveled to Europe in October of 2008, and made history. He and Dr. Sally McKenzie of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln testified before the European Union Parliament on how genetically enhanced crops and livestock have worked to the benefit of consumers and the economy of Nebraska. This was the first time a sitting U.S. Governor has testified to the EU parliament. Also along for the trip were leaders in agricultural finance, grain, livestock and general farm organizations. The Rural Radio Network's Ken Rahjes was the ONLY member of the media to go along and report on the mission.

The annual live broadcast from the Nebraska State Fair took place in Ag Hall on Friday, August 29th. The Salute to Nebraska Agriculture and the University of Nebraska brings out a who's who list of leaders and we are proud of our association with the Nebraska State Fair, the University of Nebraska and all commodity groups and agriculture organizations across the state.

The 11th Annual Cattlemen's Ball was held near Albion, June 6-8. The Niewohner family served as hosts on their ranch. The weather brought many challenges but in the end everything worked well and a great time was had by all and several thousands of dollars were raised for the UNMC Eppley Cancer Center and local medical operations. The Nebraska Rural Radio Association met June 26th and 27th, 2008 in Lexington for the quarterly board meeting. The NRRA board was joined by the Nebraska Coop Council Board for a joint dinner meeting Thursday, June 26th, at Eric and Ruth Brown's Johnson Lake home.

The Chairman of the Agriculture Committee of the European Commission, Neil Parrish made a quick trip to Nebraska on May 15th at the invitation of Director of Agriculture Greg Ibach. Mr. Parrish toured the ARDC near Meade and agriculture interests around Omaha.
